Have you ever stopped training for a few weeks and felt weaker when you came back? This is called “detraining.”When we train regularly, our muscles and nervous system adapt to the exercise. We become stronger, and resistance training can also increase muscle size. But when we stop training, these adaptations slowly start to decrease.Interestingly, losing strength does not always mean that you are losing the same amount of muscle. Research shows that during periods of inactivity, strength can decrease faster than muscle mass. The longer we stay inactive, the greater these changes can become. But taking a short break does not mean that all your progress is gone! Some adaptations can remain even after a period without training. So if you miss the gym for a while, there is no reason to panic. Just return gradually and give your body time to adapt again.Your body adapts to what you regularly ask it to do — training or resting.
