Did you know that some babies are born with a condition that makes their head tilt to one side? This condition, called congenital muscular torticollis (CMT), happens when a neck muscle (the sternocleidomastoid) is shorter on one side. As a result, the baby’s head leans in one direction while the face turns the opposite way.
Good news—research shows that early physical therapy works! A review of high-quality studies from 2011 to 2020 found that physical therapy significantly improves this condition. Infants who received therapy early had shorter treatment times and better results. The studies also highlighted that parents’ commitment to exercise routines played a key role in their baby’s recovery.
