A major international study has shown that biparametric MRI, a shorter scan that does not require contrast dye, is just as effective as the standard multiparametric MRI in detecting prostate cancer. Both methods identified the same proportion of clinically significant cancers, but biparametric MRI offered several advantages: no need for gadolinium injections, fewer risks of side effects, shorter scan times, and lower costs.
