Feeling stressed or overwhelmed by university life? A simple daily walk might do more for your mental health than you think!
A 2025 report published by Medscape discussed a systematic review and meta-analysis involving more than 96,000 adults. Researchers found that people who walked at least 7,000 steps per day had a 31% lower risk of depression compared with those who walked fewer steps.
However, this does not mean that walking automatically prevents depression. The findings show an association, not a proven cause-and-effect relationship.
Walking is an accessible way to stay physically active. Whether you walk to university, explore your neighborhood, or take a break between classes, every step can contribute to a more active lifestyle.
You don’t need to reach 10,000 steps every day. Start with a realistic goal and gradually increase your activity.
