Have you ever seen people on TikTok taping their mouths shut or using special products to improve their sleep? These trends are part of “sleepmaxxing,” a growing movement focused on achieving the perfect night’s sleep.
But are these popular methods actually supported by science?
According to a 2026 Medscape article, many viral sleep hacks have limited scientific evidence. For example, mouth taping may even worsen breathing problems in people with certain airway conditions. Nasal strips may make breathing feel easier, but studies have not consistently shown that they improve sleep apnea.
Fortunately, improving sleep doesn’t have to be complicated.
Maintaining a regular bedtime, keeping your bedroom dark and quiet, and ensuring a comfortable, cool sleeping environment are better-supported approaches.
Before trying the latest viral sleep trend, remember that popular does not always mean scientifically proven!
